Gencon acquired by private individual

This unique product, patent protected and born out of a love for animals and their welfare is a training lead designed to control an animal without causing discomfort. Designed for dogs, it was also used with ponies, sheep and alpacas.

Being in the pet sector, the sale of this business generated a lot of interest but the key was in moving the value away from current turnover and towards future growth possibilities with the protection of the patent. A buyer who knew how to market a product effectively, both online and on the High Street, and could build upon the Gencon name while that protection existed, establishing it as the market leader.

A national retailer might seem a good fit but they clearly did not feel they had to create a win-win deal and the offer was too low. Andrew Treleavan has already impressed with a track record of growing food businesses and whilst he had no experience of pet products, he quickly revealed his understanding and enthusiasm for the opportunity and a talent for growing product sales through retail, wholesale and export channels.
