One of the initial challenges in the sale of M&CT was constantly revising the asking price to reflect the growing level of sales. Finding the right buyer for a specialist business that was also reliant on its owner for innovation and industry presence was also key.
Over time we saw many buyers and received many offers, due to the intellectual property the business owned. However, few could cope with the sales cycle of the business, the large fluctuating orders, retaining the St Helens location and replacing the expertise of the owner. The sale therefore required patience.
In time a perfect buyer and a structured deal was agreed. This allowed for a managed exit that reflected both the risk and potential in the business, whilst allowing our clients to benefit from the retained profit they had earned over the years.
Dean Baker was a good buyer, because he had the right mix of technical, sales and managerial skills to take M&CT forward and to look after the staff (a factor critical for our clients).
We wish Chris and Mary well in their retirement.
When we first asked Paul and Alex to sell our business, we did not think it would take so long.
However, Business Partnership always remained attentive, understood what was driving the business forward and what our key conditions were for a sale.
They were also not afraid to advise when to reject offers and protected our interests on more than one occasion.
In Dean we have found the right buyer, who will look after the legacy we have built and we would thank Paul and Alex for their persistence.
